CPP Mobile

UX/UI Design, Research

Overview

Optimizing login and onboarding for Cal Poly Pomona's official app. The purpose of this app is to access campus information and services

The CPP Mobile redesign is a project my team presented at the Cal Poly Pomona SheCodes Semester Long Project 2025 Presentation Day.

Design Team

Jeannette Ruiz, Erin Lee, Akari Narikawa, Carina Huang, Thuy An Nguyen, Joudi Heilani

My Roles

Research, Optimizing login and onboarding

The Problem

Users encounter frustration when they are prompted to re-enter information each time they open the app

The Current App

The current app prompts users to reselect their user type each time, leading to frustration.

Visual Identity

While collaborating with the design time, we ensured that the app design was in compliance with Cal Poly Pomona's official brand guidelines

Research

Over the course of a few weeks, we conducted research through various UX research methods such as card sorting, user interviews, surveys, and competitive analysis

From the research, we identified pain points and defined the information architecture to address these issues

Key pain points:

  • Repetitive login

  • Poor Navigation

40% of students reported experiencing difficulty in locating the resources they needed. This indicated challenges in navigation, organization, and visual clarity within the app

Informatioin Architecture

The Solution

Introduce Single Sign-On and onboarding, personalizing the app for each student

Signing In

With Single Sign-On, users log in to their Cal Poly Pomona school account once and do not have to constantly log back in, increasing user satisfaction and reduces friction

Onboarding Tutorial

Users can easily access information through the navigation bar. Information is separated between Academics, Calendar, Campus Life, and Notifications.

Takeaway

Since this project was a collaborative project, I learned a lot by working closely with students from other disciplines with diverse perspectives and innovative ideas
